Several years ago a friend put Jane Lewis in touch with Neil Astley, editor of Bloodaxe Books, suggesting he might find some of her images suitable for use on covers of their poetry publications. In all, 22 of her pictures appeared on Bloodaxe’s beautifully designed book covers. None of the images were specially commissioned, all the reproductions being from pictures painted independently, and yet their relevance to the text is often striking. In many cases the writer selected the image. This gallery displays all 22 Bloodaxe covers, plus some by other publishers.
